MITCHELL, SD — The Area Community Theater in Mitchell, SD (ACT) will host a special student-only matinee of A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas on December 10th at the Pepsi-Cola Theater for the Performing Arts. The event is closed to the public and represents more than $7,000 in community impact, supporting ACT’s mission to make the arts accessible to all children.

Students invited include all 5th graders from Mitchell Public Schools and Mitchell Christian, along with 2nd–6th graders from St. John Paul II School—totaling about 280 local youth. For many, this will be their first experience seeing a live theatrical production.

A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas tells the touching story of the Ingalls family during a difficult winter on the prairie. Set between Wilder’s classic books On the Banks of Plum Creek and By the Shores of Silver Lake, the play highlights perseverance, family, and the true meaning of Christmas—offering students a heartfelt look at pioneer life and holiday spirit.

This outreach initiative is made possible thanks to the generous support of Plastow & Associates, Miedema Sanitation, and Break Time Portables, whose contributions cover bussing for all participating students. Their investment allows ACT to deliver this experience at no cost to the schools or families.

ACT remains committed to providing meaningful arts experiences that educate, inspire, and strengthen the Mitchell community.

For more information about ACT’s community initiatives, upcoming productions, or opportunities to support youth access to the arts, please visit www.mitchellact.org or follow ACT on Facebook.
