MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A burn ban has been reinstated in Davison County and will remain in effect until further notice, according to county officials.

The signed resolution is available in the Davison County Auditor’s Office.

Under the ban, most open burning is prohibited. However, officials said some limited exceptions are allowed. Private residential campfires are permitted, along with trash burning in rural areas under strict conditions.

Rural residents may burn trash only if it is contained within a proper burn barrel equipped with a mesh or screen lid to prevent embers from escaping. Fires must be continuously monitored and attended at all times, and an adequate water supply must be readily available nearby.

Officials urge residents to use caution as dry conditions continue to increase the risk of wildfire across the region.

The burn ban will remain in place until conditions improve and officials determine it is safe to lift the restrictions.
