Local Blood Banks Urgently Looking for New Donors

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — LifeServe Blood Center is putting out an urgent call for donations.

Officials say supplies began to fall off significantly during the spring. As summer begins, the risk of serious crashes soars and hospitals are hit with trauma cases more often, meaning now is when they need blood well-stocked.

LifeServe Director of PR and Marketing Tim Paluch stresses, “The need for blood donations does not go away during the summer months, and hospital patients don’t get a summer break or vacation.”

He adds, “And right now, the blood supply is already being impacted by a drop in donations in recent weeks and months.”
Nationwide, someone requires a transfusion every two seconds. One donation is enough blood to help up to three people.

LifeServe has locations throughout South Dakota and Iowa. They are situated at 819 E. Spruce Street in Mitchell.
