Mitchell Announces Holiday Garbage and Recycling Schedule for Christmas

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The City of Mitchell has announced changes to garbage and recycling collection due to the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day holidays.

City officials say because Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, the regular collection schedule will be adjusted.

Wednesday’s garbage and recycling collection will begin early at 7 a.m. on Dec. 24 and will be completed by noon. There will be no garbage or recycling collection on Thursday, Dec. 25.

Collection normally scheduled for Thursday will be delayed by one day, with routes running Friday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 27.

The Mitchell Regional Landfill will close at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and will be closed all day on Thursday, Dec. 25. Officials note the schedule may change if inclement weather occurs.
