MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Mitchell city leaders are moving forward with several studies designed to guide future infrastructure improvements across the community.

The Mitchell City Council recently approved a drainage study north of Dry Run Creek, with a cost of nearly $130,000. Officials say the study will help identify flood-prone areas and prioritize future drainage projects.

In addition, council members approved a pedestrian safety plan connected to a potential federal grant opportunity. City leaders say the plan is intended to improve safety for walkers and cyclists while strengthening the city’s chances of securing outside funding.

A citywide pavement survey was also approved to evaluate current road conditions. The survey will assess the state of Mitchell’s streets and help determine priorities for repairs and upgrades.

City officials say the combined studies are an important step in long-term planning, providing data needed to guide future infrastructure investments and improve overall transportation and drainage systems.
