MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A handful of Mitchell teachers are kicking off the school year with some extra help in the classroom. About $14,000 in KIDS Grants have been handed out for creative projects, technology, and hands-on learning experiences. The grants ranged from $700 to $5,000 and went to eight teachers who pitched their ideas. The KIDS Grant program, now in its 11th year, is fueled by donations from local families, businesses, and organizations and has put more than $174,000 into Mitchell classrooms since it started. This year’s projects include everything from sensory tools and cross-curricular projects to fun fitness events and new reading resources.
