MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Five teenagers were in a vehicle that rolled over east of Mitchell, leaving one with life-threatening injuries.

At about 6 p.m. on Friday, an 18-year-old man lost control of a 2010 Dodge Caliber on 255th Street when he tried to handle a curve about 2.5 miles from the city. The Caliber caught fire during the rollover.

The driver and an 18-year-old woman passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old passenger was hurt critically. He was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital for further treatment. The other two passengers, both 15-year-old girls, were unhurt. All five teens are from Mitchell.

Assisting at the scene were the Alexandria Fire Department, Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Hanson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mitchell Police and Fire Departments. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
