Mitchell Water Utility Bid Comes in Well Below Estimates

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Mitchell City Council got good news at Monday’s meeting when a bid for improvements at the Randall Community Water District Pump Station came in over $100,000 below expectations.

The RCWD is in the process of building out a regional waterline that will connect communities across 72 miles of south-central South Dakota. It has been determined that the city will need to install its own meter vault downstream of Randall Rural Water’s. City staff can then monitor water quality from the site.

The city used firm AE2S to review four bids for the work. They recommended the city choose the low bid from 605 Companies, Inc. of Sioux Falls of $472,785. The engineer’s estimate was just shy of $600,000.

AE2S reviewed the bid from 605 Companies to ensure completeness, meaning that the company understood the scope of the work and factored everything in to come up with their estimate. The city has contracted with 605 Companies on other projects in the past. The other three bids ranged from $598,920 to $819,000. The bids were opened on Thursday, May 21st.
