Pine Ridge Emergency Continues, Tribe Says Help Still Lacking

PINE RIDGE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Pine Ridge Reservation remains in a state of emergency, months after tribal leaders called for urgent help. Oglala Sioux Tribe President Frank Star Comes Out says not much has changed since December, when he asked for more officers, tougher drug enforcement, and more jail space. He says a federal task force did come through, but he questions if it was just for show. Right now, the tribe has only about 30 officers for a two-million-acre reservation. Star Comes Out says by treaty, they should have 130. He said he blames Congress for letting key funding and grants dry up. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here
