PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has declared a state of emergency as the ongoing federal government shutdown threatens vital programs for Tribal members. According to KELOLand, Chairman Steven Sitting Bear says the shutdown,  now the longest in U.S. history, is jeopardizing funding for SNAP, WIC, and home energy assistance programs serving thousands of residents. Sitting Bear urged Congress to end what he called a “needless crisis,” warning that delays could leave families without food or heat as winter approaches. The declaration will remain in effect until federal funding is restored. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
