Virginia Nydam, 94, Corsica

Corsica – Virginia Nydam, 94, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, March 21 at the Good Samaritan Center.  Funeral service will be Saturday, March 25, at 10:30 am, with visitation starting at 9:30 am, at Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Virginia was born July 29, 1928 to John Sr. and Dora (VanGenderen) Olivier.  She was united in marriage to John Edward Nydam on January 24, 1945 at her parents farm in Douglas County, SD.  She was a hard working farm wife in Aurora County for 48 years, was an Aurora County Court bailiff for 15 years and in 1993 moved to Corsica, SD where she owned and operated Ginnie’s Place, an apartment complex.  She was also worked in the activities department at the Good Samaritan Center for 20 years.  She was a on the board of Fish Lake Country Club near Plankinton, SD and was instrumental in transitioning from sand greens to grass greens.  She loved playing softball on the Aurora Center ladies team and was known to be a home run hitter.  She also belonged to a bowling team and a golf league and excelled at both.  She also enjoyed watching and feeding birds, listening to music and was a puzzle maker extraordinare.

Grateful for having shared her life are 3 daughters:  Carol (Leonard) Weins of Platte, SD; Judy (Larry) Groeneweg of Corsica; and Kathy (Bruce) Zomer of Corsica; a daughter-in-law, Beverly (Tom) Nydam Varilek of Stickney, SD; 13 grandchildren:  Lisa Youngstrom, Michelle Weins, Cory Weins, Jodie Lakis, Jeannie DeLange, LaRoy Groeneweg, Nicole Bamberg, John Arlyn Nydam, Timothy Nydam, Matthew Zomer, Travis Zomer, Jennifer Johnson, and Bridget Veurink; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Dorothy (Virgil) Vreugdenhil of Stickney and Viola Breukelman of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John Allen Nydam; a grandson, LaRon Groeneweg; 7 siblings:  John Olivier Jr., Susan (Garfield) Bruinsma, Clarence (Jessie) Oliver, Raymond (Johanna) Olivier, Geneva (Henry) Breukelman, Ernest (Ester) Olivier, and Wilis Olivier; parents-in-law, Arie and Armina Nydam; and in-laws, Eleanor (Nydam) Olivier, Roy Saldin, John Breukelman, Nellie (Adrian) VanDrongelen, Agnes (Gerrit) Wolbrink, Bertha (Nick) Zwaan, Ben (Ruth) Nydam, Herman (Irene) Nydam, and Winfred and first wife, Sylvia.
